Following up with my Mark Romanek “stalker series” of postings I get to write about Madonna, who’s one of my all time favorite guilty pleasure artists. Unfortunately the song “Rain” is one of my least favorite Madonna songs.  When I hear this song I spontaneously roll my eyes, and convulse like a cat puking, while desperately wanting to grab whatever’s in arm’s reach to shove into my ears. Dramatics aside, this video is actually reallllly gorgeous and if I couldn’t still “hear” the song while watching the video on mute I wouldn’t mind it as a background video in a trendy bar/fancy bathroom.  Ok, back to the point.

There are 15 Marc Newson Lockheed Lounges made and one is in the “Rain” video. The Lockheed Lounge, created in the mid 1980′s in part from a grant from the Australian Craft’s Council and for Basecraft for Pod, Austrailia, it’s considered one of the most expensive pieces of furniture in the world.  The prototype (white exposed fiberglass-reinforced resin feet) fetched over 2 million in 2010.  The edition of ten along with the four artist’s proofs have black rubber feet and have gone for over a million in recent years. The Lockheed Lounge is made of hammered aluminum over a fiberglass body.  As I mentioned in the previous Romanek/Jackson/Scream post that a miniature Big Easy Chair, was available, those crafty Vitra peeps have not let the Lockheed Lounge go unnoticed… A limited run of 500 are available for only $1365,  your Barbie could have a SICK dream house!

7 Mill to Make you hollah..

As a follow up to my post on NIN’s Closer video by Mark Romanek, I’ve decided to be a little obsessive and do a few more posts on Mark Romanek… So yes, this is not the last post on a music video that you’ll be getting from me…

Michael and Janet Jackson’s 1995 video Scream, is still after 17 years, listed as the most expensive music video ever made.  At 7 Million dollars, this video runs about 4 mins and 46 secs which comes to roughly $25,000 a second. Sorry, but that’s F’in nuts! Ok… Back to the point…

So, this is really not a MCM piece that I’m about to discuss, but it’s a great chair so I don’t care, I’m writing about it anyway. Ron Arad’s Big Easy Chair, released in 1991 has a steel frame with an injection foam exterior.  The polished steel version in the photo above was from a limited run done in 1988. If you’d like a glossy white one like the Jackson’s, Hive Modern has them for $3310. But….. if you’re feeling like you want something special you could always hunt for the steel one, there’s 20 out there. Christies Auction had #11 that went for a little over $116,000 in 2008.  Nova68 has the Vitra Miniature ones for ONLY $770! At about 6″ tall that breaks down to about $128 an inch (again, F’in nuts!) … I think there are probably a few Michael Jackson dolls on Ebay who’d be super happy to get that chair…

Play With Me!

Sometimes when I rewatch a movie that I know I watched A LOT of when I was younger I’m amazed that A: I was allowed to watch it and B: think there is NO way a movie like this could be made today… That being said THE TOY with Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason is probably being reworked.  It might be a funny movie with Larry David in the Pryor Role and Meryl Streep role…
The toy room has 2 great pieces.  Eero Arnio’s Pastil chair in yellow can still be bought new for $1792 at Hive Modern or you can go vintage for $1200 at 20cDesign.com in black or $2400 at Home114 in white.
The Joe by Gionatan De Pas, Danato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi. Named after the legendary New York Yankees center fielder Joe DiMaggio. The closest I could get to this was a vintage denim one in Paris for $5197.  A fun option for $1000 is the plastic one at Nova68 or Hive Modern.

So again, If anyone knows David or Meryl tell them to think about this remake since Hollywood isn’t doing any NEW stories…. I’d go see this remake.
