Last week my friend and I were talking about our dream chairs and his was Charles and Ray Eames La Chaise. That conversation led me to remember Brandy’s “Have You Ever” video directed by Kevin Bray. Designed for a “Low Cost Furniture Design” competition for the MOMA in 1948, it was never put into production due to the limited manufacturing options. In the 1980′s Vitra began discussions with Ray Eames to borrow the original to begin fabrication in Germany.
Inspired by Gaston Lachaise “Floating Figure” sculpture, the La Chaise lounge is one of the only pieces with a non initial title such as LCM, DAX, EDU. This retails for a little under $11,000. All my friend needs now is to win the lottery or 100 friends give him $110 each… That shouldn’t be too difficult right???
